Fortune 100 Technology Company
Strengthening investigations and monitoring with Ontic’s single source of truth
The Global Threat and Investigations team at a Fortune 100 technology company uses Ontic as its single source of truth for investigation research, OSINT, and persons of interest monitoring—resulting in a connected, repeatable way to uncover critical context, collaborate in real time, and proactively manage risk across cases and events.
The challenge
As the company’s Global Threat and Investigations program evolved, the team was called upon to support HR, Legal, and investigative groups on active cases, including employee misconduct, insider theft, alleged ethics violations, and OSINT-based background checks. They were frequently tasked with assessing potential risks tied to individuals using minimal initial information—sometimes just a name, email address, or social media handle.
Research was largely ad hoc and manual, with findings scattered across email threads and disconnected files. Without a centralized system, the team lacked the ability to:
Connect disparate pieces of information across cases
Identify relationships between individuals or circumstances
Access reliable sources of external research data
Store and build on prior intelligence in a consistent way
The solution
With Ontic, the company centralized its investigations, OSINT monitoring, and persons of interest data into a single connected platform, creating a shared foundation for more consistent and more proactive security operations.
A shared baseline for every investigation
The team moved from siloed, inconsistent research methods to a unified system where anyone can instantly look up a person of interest and access prior intelligence. This eliminated duplicate work and enabled better collaboration across cases.
Faster context when information is limited
Even with minimal context, investigators can use Ontic’s Integrated Research and OSINT Listening to reliably and efficiently gather open-source information and credentialed research—quickly surfacing public data and social activity, uncovering connections, and building a clear picture for executive decision-making.
Improved OSINT efficiency and proactive monitoring
Previously, investigators spent hours each day manually reviewing social media accounts. With Social Activity Watch, relevant social content is automatically pulled into persons of interest profiles, saving significant time while expanding visibility. The team also uses Ontic’s OSINT feeds to monitor relevant keywords, helping them stay ahead of potential threats and respond faster.
A formalized process for event security
The company uses Ontic’s Rapid Group Scan to ingest event attendee lists and identify individuals for review. Before Ontic, this level of screening wasn’t possible—attendee reviews were inconsistent and managed across disconnected lists, with no reliable way to identify known individuals or track risk over time.
By leveraging Rapid Group Scan and Ontic’s centralized persons of interest management, the team developed a formal Event Registration Deconfliction Procedure that enables the team to create BOLOs, better direct on-site security, and align with Legal and HR around a consistent process. Ontic made it possible to formalize and scale this approach, giving greater confidence ahead of major events.
The impact
By connecting intelligence across investigations, OSINT, and persons of interest profiles, Ontic has helped the team scale its security operations and mature its program.
Reduced risk through earlier detection and faster action
With deeper research and monitoring capabilities, teams can identify and respond to threats quickly, reducing risk and increasing confidence in their decisions.
Significant time savings
Automation and centralized intelligence reduced time spent on manual OSINT, searching through email threads for information, and duplicate research—freeing investigators to focus on higher-value analysis.
A trusted partner across the organization
By delivering consistent, well-informed insights, the Global Threat and Investigations team has become a trusted partner to Legal, HR, and executive teams.
Accelerated program maturity
Ontic has become a foundational platform for the company, enabling standardized threat assessment processes, formalized event procedures, and a more scalable, intelligence-driven approach to security.
We’ve really grown as a program with Ontic. There aren’t a lot of tools that I can say helped us grow in this way.
