Last year, in the aftermath of the Jan. 6 riots in the U.S. Capitol, I penned a column and did several media interviews on the failures of security and the lessons that companies can learn from these events.
One year later, new details about the Jan. 6 riots continue to emerge. An ongoing FBI investigation has led to the arrest of hundreds of people, more every week. While the vast majority of fencing has been taken down, the U.S. Capitol Police and other law enforcement have implemented a number of physical security measures — some seen and some not visible.
Intelligence collection efforts across the government have, we can be sure, trained their attention onto the right channels of threats. In the U.S. government, tragedy always forces change, and I have very little doubt that the events we saw that day will repeat themselves at the U.S. Capitol.
